Michele McKinnie, Psy.D. is co-founder and Executive Director of the Big Sky Psychological Consortium. She and Dr. Ryan (deceased April 2026) developed the consortium in 2014 to meet the dual needs of increasing the number of well-trained mental health providers in the state and increasing access to quality mental health care for Gallatin County residents. In her role as Director of Clinical Training at BSPC, Dr. McKinnie developed the post-doctoral training program and has actively served as clinical supervisor for all trainees who have come through the program. She finds supervision meaningful and works collaboratively with trainees to meet their training goals and needs.
Dr. McKinnie has worked in Montana as a Licensed Psychologist for 25 years. She enjoys therapy work with individuals from teens through all stages of adulthood and provides depth-oriented psychotherapy that is informed by relational psychodynamics, interpersonal, and attachment theories.
In addition to her clinical work, since 2007 Dr. McKinnie has been involved in leadership roles with the Montana Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. She greatly enjoys the opportunity to be involved in the profession in this capacity and finds these activities enriching and a welcome expansion of her professional identity. Since graduate school she has received multiple awards for her professional activities; most recently she was awarded the Karl F Heiser APA Presidential Award for Advocacy. This award honors those psychologists who have given voluntarily of their time to define the discipline of psychology statutorily by state and federal laws and regulations through advocacy.
Dr. McKinnie attended Pacific University School of Professional Psychology in Forest Grove, OR, graduating in 2000. She completed her pre-doctoral internship training at Montana State University Counseling and Psychological Services in Bozeman, MT and her post-doctoral training at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, MT.

Dr. Michele McKinnie is a licensed psychologist and co-founder of Big Sky Psychological Consortium. She has provided psychological services in Bozeman since 2002 and works with clients from adolescence through every stage of adulthood.
Dr. McKinnie offers depth-oriented psychotherapy informed by relational psychodynamic, interpersonal and attachment-based theories. Her clinical experience includes depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, identity concerns, interpersonal difficulties, emotional coping and personality disorders.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. McKinnie directs the Consortium’s postdoctoral training program and provides collaborative clinical supervision to developing psychologists.
